My goodness! It's been just shy of two months since I've had anything to say about 40K. This has been a very busy summer here on the farm, which is great for business and not so great for hobbying.
I've just been picking away at my trio of Landspeeders this whole summer, and am finally ready to start assembling the main bodies after magnetizing everything and painting the pilots and heavy TheRhinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13199708616977903957noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-401134511366147394.post-30790665601599316322017-06-21T20:43:00.001-04:002017-06-21T20:43:30.799-04:00And we have liftoff! As everyone is well are, 8th Edition has launched! I stopped by the FLGS for the launch day event and enjoyed a couple small games and some cake.
My thoughts are scattered a bit, so I'm going to try to ramble about the day and the new edition in little sections.

I, like many others, have gotten a bit of a motivational jolt after seeing how 8th Edition will work.
The squad is just five Marines for now, sergeant with a power sword and two Marines with flamers.
I'd decided on the weaponry before 8th was announced, and TheRhinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13199708616977903957noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-401134511366147394.post-15431060817430191622017-05-01T12:17:00.002-04:002017-05-01T12:17:41.917-04:00Raven Guard ChaplainWell, it certainly has been a while since I've updated the blog. Since my last post, I've completed my Rhino (nothing fancy, just a plain old Rhino), four more pistol/chainsword Assault Marines to round out a squad of ten, attended an invitational 40K friendly tourney, and painted a Chaplain to lead my Bladewing Assault Brotherhood. Oh, and GW also dropped the bomb of 8th Edition on us.

I've got the gunner, hatches, ad doors mostly done, the dozer half done, ad a base coat on the main chassis.
Pretty boring stuff. It'll get some decals, maybe some freehand lettering, and I have to bust out the airbrush to paint a squad symbol on the top hatch. Nothing fancy, just a masked off section for a tactical arrow.

To be honest, I lost my enthusiasm for the models and sort of phoned it in on the paint job near the end. They're better than primer or bare plastic though, so I'll take it.

I discovered that one of the massive weaknesses of my current list is protection and mobility for my Tactical Squad and/or Sternguard Squad. So, a Rhino was in order. It doesn't hurt that it was also a model I had in my piles of unbuilt stuff that I want to get painted this year.
I spent a good while carefully assembling the TheRhinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13199708616977903957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-401134511366147394.post-77291816542784477672017-02-10T12:33:00.003-05:002017-02-10T12:33:41.161-05:00Blood Bowl Orcs, Progress Report TwoIt's time for an update. Things have been busy since Christmas what with vacations, holdays, birthdays, snow days, and a big DIY renovation project on my house. Tearing down old plaster walls and putting in new electrical lines and some plumbing. Not a ton of time for painting of late.
I've been working on these three Orcs for what feels like an eternity now. I painted the skin with Reaper colors, with a wash of old GW Thrakka Green in the process. I'm not sure if I like the result or not. It's hard to tell until the model is complete. The nice thing with Orcs is that I can have different green recipes for different models and it won't be a problem.
After the skin, I applied TheRhinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13199708616977903957noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-401134511366147394.post-13925254153445761032017-01-03T12:48:00.000-05:002017-01-03T12:48:18.824-05:00Let the 2017 Projects Begin! Now that the holidays are over, I'm back to my regular winter day schedule. That means I'll get my half hour of hobby time in each weekday morning. The long holiday break prevented me from getting very much done, as it's hard to hobby with a kid running around with new XMas toys.
The first thing I've done is assemble and begin basing for some of my Blood Bowl Orc models. I've not really been working on improving or anything, just slowly picking away at models for fun. Right now, I'm applying paint to a Forgeworld Deathstorm Drop Pod.
I originally bought this model for my Ultramarines, but never got around to painting it despite having magnetized and assembled it into subgroups. You all know what a standard drop pod looks like, so I'm not bothering to share that. Plus, I cut some corners to get it done in time for the Standoff, so it's not my favorite.
Anyhow, here is Tactical Squad Ouvai. They're led by Sergeant Yasson Ouvai (YAH-sohn Ooh-VUY). Firstly, I fixed the sepia tone of my images. I covered the table with white paper to prevent the brown color from reflecting up onto the model. I was out of town last week, so I missed the update on blocking in colors on the model.
Here's the current painting progress on the Raven Guard Venerable Dreadnought:

This past weekend (May the 21st) was the annual Fratris Salutem at my FLGS, a narrative story event. Thor from Creative Twilight has been running the event for the last three years and invests a lot of time and energy into it. It's always a blast, with great games and nice looking armies.

I had a very nice, long post to share with you all last week, but it didn't work out. I wrote up all sorts of info on the progress I've made on my Raven Guard Vanguard squad (finished, played a couple games with them), as well as my Sternguard squad (paint in progress), and Leviathan Dread (mostly assembled).
